La chasse au trésor lancée en Juin / The treasure Hunt launched in June
La chasse au trésor du jackpot d’un million de dollars de la Golden League ÅF sera ouverte, le dimanche 14 juin, dans le stade olympique chargé d’histoire de la capitale allemande. La Russe, Yelena Isinbayeva, Athlète de l’année 2008 et l’Ethiopien, Kenenisa Bekele, champion olympique 2008 sur 5000 et 10 000m, ont d’ores et déjà confirmé qu’ils relèveraient le défi : décrocher le jackpot d’un million de dollars qui vient récompenser les athlètes invaincus sur les six meetings du circuit Golden League ÅF. D’autres grands noms de l’athlétisme seront aussi de la partie. La Croate Blanka Vlasic, championne du monde de saut en hauteur, qui caracole déjà en tête des listes mondiales de l’année avec 2,05m ainsi que deux virtuoses du lancer de javelot, le Norvégien Andreas Thorkildsen, double champion olympique et le Finlandais Tero Pitkämäki, détenteur du record du monde.
En 2009, la Golden League ÅF totalisera DIX épreuves qui compteront pour le Jackpot, cinq pour les hommes et cinq pour les femmes :
Hommes: 100m, 400m, 3000m/5000m, 110m haies, lancer du javelot
Femmes: 100m, 400m, 100m haies, saut en hauteur, saut à la perche

The treasure hunt of the million dollar jackpot of the Golden League ÅF will be opened, on Sunday, 14th June, in the Olympic stadium of the German capital loaded with history. The Russian, Yelena Isinbayeva, Athlete of year 2008 and the Ethiopian, Kenenisa Bekele, the Olympic champion 2008 on 5,000m and 10, 000m, have already confirmed that they would meet the challenge: take down the million dollar jackpot which comes to reward the undefeated athletes on six meetings of the Golden League ÅF circuit. Other big names of athletics will also be of the party. Blanka Vlasic from Croatia, world champion of high jump, who already cavorts at the head of the world lists of the year with 2,05m as well as two virtuosos of the javelin throw, the Norwegian Andreas Thorkildsen, double Olympic champion and Tero Pitkämäki from Finland, world recordman.
In 2009, the Golden League ÅF will add up TEN events which will count for the Jackpot, five for men and five for women:
Men: 100m, 400m, 3,000m / 5,000m, 110 metres hurdles, javelin throw
Women: 100m, 400m, 100 metres hurdles, high jump, pole vault

Pamela Jelimo rate sa sortie à Rabat / Pamela Jelimo misses her outing in Rabat
Le Meeting International Mohammed VI d'athlétisme, organisé au complexe sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah à Rabat, est entré dans les annales des grands événements d'athlétisme grâce à la participation lors de sa 2ème édition de coureurs de classe mondiale et à une organisation sans failles.
Toutes les épreuves ont retenu l'attention d'un public venu en masse (35.000 spectateurs) suivre de près les sommités de l'athlétisme mondial.
Ce prestigieux meeting a connu la participation d'athlètes de grosse pointure dont la Kenyane Pamela Jelimo, championne olympique du 800 m à Pékin 2008 et la Marocaine Hasna Benhassi, médaillée de bronze à la même compétition et d'argent aux mondiaux d'athlétisme à Osaka en 2007.
Sur le 800 m, la Kenyane de 20 ans a livré une course rapide mais sans pouvoir monter sur le podium, se contentant de la sixième place. Le succès sur cette piste de double tour est revenu à la Britannique Jenney Meadows en 2:01.78. De son côté, Benhassi, alignée au 1.500 m s'est contentée de la quatrième place. L'Ukrainienne Iryna Lischynska a réalisé la meilleure performance mondiale de l’année en 4:06.22.
Cette soirée d'athlétisme a été également rehaussée par la prestation du Marocain Yahya Berrabah au saut en longueur qui a effectué un saut de 8,38m, devançant le Sud-africain Godfrey Mokoena (8,17m) et l'Américain Miguel Pate (8,05m).
Sur 5000m, le Kenyan Jacob Cheshari a réalisé la meilleure performance de l’année en 13:05:62 devant son compatriote Joseph Kiplimo (13:09.34).
Le 2ème Meeting International Mohammed VI d'athlétisme a été marqué par la présence du Premier ministre, M. Abbas El Fassi, de la ministre de la Jeunesse et des sports, Mme Nawal El Moutawakil, et d'autres personnalités.
The International Athletics Meeting Mohammed VI organized in the sports complex Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, entered the annals of the big athletics events thanks to the participation during its 2nd edition of world class runners and to a perfect organization.
All events held the attention of a public massively come (35,000 spectators) to closely follow the leading talents of the world athletics.
This prestigious meeting witnessed participation of big size athletes among which the Kenyan Pamela Jelimo, Olympic champion of 800 m in Pekin 2008 and the Moroccan Hasna Benhassi who was awarded a bronze medal in the same competition and a silver medal in the athletics world championships in Osaka 2007.
On 800 m, the 20-year-old Kenyan offered a fast running but without being able to rise on the podium, contenting herself with the sixth place. The success on this two rounds track was Jenney Meadows’s from Britain 2:01.78. As for Benhassi in the 1.500 m, she contented herself with the fourth place. The Ukrainian Iryna Lischynska achieved the best world performance of the year 4:06.22.
This evening of athletics was also heightened by the performance of the Moroccan Yahya Berrabah in the long jump who made a jump of 8,38m, outstripping the South African Godfrey Mokoena (8,17m) and the American Miguel Pate (8,05m).

 Gebreselassie et Matete s’allient pour lancer la grande course zambienne / Gebrselassie and Matete team up to launch Great Zambian Run
L’Ethiopien détenteur du record du monde de marathon, Haile Gebreselassie et le zambien Samuel Matete, champion du monde de 400m Haies en 1991, se sont alliés pour lancer la première partie de la série grande course africaine, la grande course zambienne sur 10km, à Lusaka, en Zambie.
La grande course Africaine est une série de courses sur route prévues à travers plusieurs parties du continent et est organisée par Nova Africa, la filiale africaine du Nova International, qui organise la grande course du Nord au Royaume uni entre autres compétitions de classe mondiale.
La partie zambienne de la série aura lieu le 29 novembre 2009.
Matete, qui dans une carrière aussi illustre que son titre du monde, ayant remporté des médailles d'argent aux Jeux Olympiques (1996) et aux championnats du monde (1993/1995), est l'un des patrons de l'événement. Il a parcouru 400km de sa ville natale pour assister au lancement à Lusaka.
Ethiopia’s World marathon record holder Haile Gebrselassie and Zambia’s Samuel Matete, the 1991 World champion at 400m Hurdles, teamed up to launch the first leg of the Great African Run series, the Great Zambian Run 10km, in Lusaka, Zambia .
The Great African Run is a series of road races planned across many parts of the continent and is organized by Nova Africa, the African subsidiary of Nova International, which organizes the Great North Run in the UK among a slew of other world class events. The Zambian leg of the series will take place on 29 November 2009.
Matete, who in an illustrious career as well as his World title achieved silver medals at the Olympics (1996) and World champs (1993 / 1995), is one of the patrons of the event, travelled 400km from his hometown to attend the launch in Lusaka.

 Dick Fosbury, hôte de l’Afrique / Dick Fosbury, the Guest of Africa
L’ancien champion de saut en hauteur Dick Fosbury a effectué sa première sortie à Dakar, comme président de l’Association mondiale des olympiens pour les besoins de la réunion du bureau exécutif. L’Américain qui a révolutionné le saut en hauteur, avec le « Fosbury flop », préside aujourd’hui aux destinées de cette auguste institution qui rassemble des anciennes sommités du monde sportif. Des huit membres du bureau exécutif de l’AMO, six ont pris part à la réunion de Dakar qui s’est tenue à huit clos. Ce sont, outre le président Fosbury, le Japonais Daichi Suzuki, la Canadienne Charmaine Crooks, le Finlandais Peter Tallberg, l’Américain Tracy Mattes et le Sénégalais Amadou Dia Ba. Tous ont marqué l’histoire du sport, à travers leurs performances dans leurs disciplines respectives.
Le président Fosbury a salué le rôle de l’Afrique dans le mouvement olympique international. Il a ainsi rappelé que c’est un Africain, en l’occurrence le Namibien Frankie Frederiks, qui dirige actuellement la commission des athlètes du CIO. Le Sénégalais Amadou Dia Ba, seul africain au sein de l’Exécutif de l’AMO, est à la tête de l’Association des olympiens africains dont le bureau est basé à Dakar. Il a été le maître d’œuvre de la première réunion, à Dakar, du nouveau bureau exécutif de l’AMO.

Among the eight members of the executive board of the WOA, six took part in the meeting of Dakar which was held in private. There were, besides the president Fosbury, the Japanese Daichi Suzuki, the Canadian Charmaine Crooks, Peter Tallberg from Finland, the American Tracy Mattes and the Senegalese Amadou Dia Ba. All of them marked the history of sports, through their performances in their respective disciplines.
The president Fosbury praised the role of Africa in the international Olympic movement. He so reminded that it is an African, namely Frankie Frederiks from Namibia, who chairs over the present athletes’ committee of the IOC. The Senegalese Amadou Dia Ba, only African within the Executive of the WOA, is the president of the Association of African Olympians the office of which is based in Dakar. He was the organiser of the first meeting of the new executive board of the WOA in Dakar.

Le Sénégal gagne les championnats ouest-africains / Senegal wins the West African Championships
Le Sénégal a pris la première place avec 10 médailles d’or des Championnats seniors d’Afrique de l’ouest d’athlétisme qui ont eu lieu à Porto Novo (Bénin).
Ce succès permet au Sénégal de prendre sa revanche sur le Nigeria vainqueur de la dernière édition.
Sur les 16 nations de la région Ouest, 11 étaient présentes dans la capitale administrative du Bénin. Ce sont : Sénégal, Nigéria, Ghana, Togo, Bénin, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger, Gambie et Guinée. Senegal was first with 10 golden medals in the western Africa senior Championships in athletics which took place in Porto-Novo (Benin).
This success allows Senegal to take its revenge on Nigeria winner of the last edition.
Among the 16 nations of the Western region, 11 were present in the administrative capital of Benin. They were: Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Niger, Gambia and Guinea. |

 Wilson Kipketer anime un stage de demi-fond / Wilson Kipketer leads a middle distance running training course
Le Danois d’origine kenyane Wilson Kipketer, détenteur du record du monde du 800m en 1’41’’11 depuis 1997, a dirigé à Dakar, un stage de demi-fond destiné aux jeunes athlètes francophones. Une belle initiative qui a aussi permis à des techniciens africains d’échanger sur les méthodes d’entraînement.

 Paul Tergat dresse son plan pour le futur / Tergat outlines his plans for the future
Paul Tergat envisage de continuer sa carrière pendant encore une ou deux années supplémentaires et rêve de gagner un autre marathon avec un temps très rapide.
Le grand coureur kenyan l’a révélé à Berlin. C’est dans cette ville qu’il est devenu le premier marathonien à avoir marqué un temps inférieur à 2H 05 mn en 2003 (2 H 04 mn 55 sec). « Ce record du monde à Berlin en 2003 était l'apogée de ma carrière. »
Abordant les derniers résultats du marathon, Tergat affirme qu’il ne croit pas à un marathon en deçà de 2 heures. « Je ne crois pas que cela soit possible dans le futur parce que je crois que nous avons presque atteint la limite. Courir 2 : 02 sera très très dur. Je crois qu’un temps légèrement au dessus de 2 :03 est possible, mais cela aussi devient vraiment difficile. Si tu cours la première moitié plus vite que 61 :30 mn, tu vas te tuer. »
Paul Tergat intends to continue his career for another one or two more years and intends to win another major marathon with a very fast time.
The great Kenyan runner said this while in Berlin. It was in this city, where he became the first marathoner to clock a sub 2:05 time in 2003 (2:04:55).
“This World record in Berlin in 2003 was the climax of my career.”
Speaking about recent developments in the marathon Tergat said he does not believe in a sub two hour marathon. “I don’t think this will be possible in future because I believe that we are already near to the limit. To run 2:02 will be very, very hard. I think a time slightly above 2:03 is possible, but this also is getting really tough. If you run the first half faster than 61:30 minutes you will kill yourself.” |
