L’IAAF dévoile le calendrier de la Diamond League/ The IAAF unveils the Diamond League Calendar
La fédération internationale d’athlétisme a dévoilé la liste des 14 villes qui vont organiser les meetings comptant pour la nouvelle Diamond League qui doit débuter en 2010.
Cette série de compétitions aura lieu en Amérique, en Asie, au Moyen-Orient et en Europe.

 Le président Hamad Kalkaba satisfait des préparatifs de « Maurice 2009 »/ The President Hamad Kalkaba satisfied with the organisation of « Mauritius 2009 »
Le président de la Confédération africaine d’Athlétisme (CAA), Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, a effectué une visite de trois jours à l’Ile Maurice dans le cadre de l’organisation de l’édition 2009 des Championnats d’Afrique juniors qui se tiendront du 30 juillet au 2 août au stade Germain Comarmond à Bambous.
Le président de la CAA a profité de son séjour pour constater la progression des préparatifs pour les Championnats d’Afrique juniors. «Nous avons discuté de la restauration, de l’aspect médical, du transport entre autres. Aussi, j’ai eu l’occasion de visiter le stade Germain Comarmond à Bambou, et je constate que tout se passe merveilleusement bien. A mon avis, il y aura une très belle édition des Championnats d’Afrique juniors», a affirmé Hamad Kalkaba Malboum.
The President of the Confederation of African Athletics ( CAA), Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, stayed in Mauritius for a visit of three days within the framework of the 2009 edition of the African junior Championships which will take place from July 30th to August 2nd in stadium Germain Comarmond in Bambous.
The president of the CAA thus took advantage of his short stay on the island to visibly notice the progress of the preparations for the African Championships. «We discussed the catering, the medical aspect, and the transport among others. I also had the opportunity to visit the stadium Germain Comarmond in Bambous, and I notice that everything is going magnificently well. To my opinion, there will be a very beautiful edition of the African junior Championships. I can even say in advance that if the African Championships were to begin tomorrow, everything would go perfectly well", asserted Hamad Kalkaba Malboum.

 Frankie Fredericks, nouveau président de la Fédération Namibienne/Fredericks wins Athletics Namibia Presidency
Frankie Fredericks a été élu à l’unanimité Président de la Fédération Namibienne d’Athlétisme lors du Congrès électif qui s’est tenu à Otjiwarongo. Sept des régions présentes ont voté pour lui.
La Congrès s’est déroulé en présence de Cheikh Thiaré qui est le Directeur de cabinet du Président de l’IAAF. Frank Slabbert a été élu Secrétaire Général tandis que quatre nouveaux vice présidents ont été nommés : Alna Similo, Job Haindura, Linus Domingo et Modestus Mwila.
Athletics Namibia has a new man at the helm after Frank Fredericks was unanimously elected as president at the Elective Congress in Otjiwarongo. Fredericks received seven votes from the seven regions present.
The Special Elective Congress was also attended by the IAAF’s special representative Cheikh Thiare who is also the director of the President’s Executive Office. Meanwhile, Frank Slabbert was unanimously elected as secretary general after the other candidate. Four new vice presidents were elected namely Alna Similo, Job Haindura, Linus Domingo and Modestus Mwila. |

 Le CIAD mise sur Amantle Montsho et Ndiss Kaba Badji / HPTC Dakar counts upon Amantle Montsho and Ndiss Kaba Badji
La Botswanaise Amantle Montsho (400m) et le Sénégalais Ndiss Kaba Badji (Longueur) seront les fers de lance du Centre International d’Athlétisme de Dakar (CIAD) lors des championnats du monde qui auront lieu, en août prochain, à Berlin en Allemagne. C’est la conviction du directeur du centre, Raphaël Agopomé qui s’entretenait avec la presse nationale et internationale à Dakar, à la veille du départ des athlètes pour le stage de Boulouris (France), en direction des championnats du monde. Les deux athlètes viseront le podium lors des « Mondiaux » de Berlin, a déclaré le directeur du CIAD. « Nous devons gagner des médailles pour justifier les investissements de l’IAAF en direction du Centre. Pour l’heure six pensionnaires du CIAD, dont la moitié a réussi les minima A, ont décroché leur visa pour les championnats du monde. Ce sont Ndiss Kaba, Amantle Montsho et la Malienne Kadiatou Camara (22’’70 au 200m). Les autres sont le Malien Ibrahima Maïga (49’’82 au 400m haies) et les Botswanais Isaak Makwala (45’’64 au 400m) et Samuel Kenosi (20’’72 au 200m). Deux athlètes, Ndèye Fatou Soumah (400m) et Mamadou Kasse Hann (400m haies), devraient profiter du stage de préparation pour réaliser les minima.
La promotion 2009 compte 17 pensionnaires en provenance de 8 pays. Le Sénégal (7), le Botswana (3), le Mali (2), le Soudan (2), les Comores (1), le Nigéria (1) et le Liban (1) sont les fournisseurs de la troupe.

 L’Ethiopienne Melkamu détrône Tirunesh Dibaba / The Ethiopian lady Melkamu dethrones Tirunesh Dibaba
L’Ethiopienne Meselech Melkamu, 24 ans, est devenue à Utrecht le dimanche 14 juin la deuxième athlète la plus rapide de l’histoire sur 10.000m en courant la distance en 29’53’’80. Seule la chinoise Wang Juxia, détentrice du record du monde en 29’31’’78 depuis 1993 a été plus rapide.
La performance de Melkamu lui permet d’établir un nouveau record d’Afrique, écartant des tablettes les 29’54’’66 de sa compatriote Tirunesh Dibaba courus à Pékin l’an passé.
Melkamu avait un record personnel de 31.04.93 datant de 2008 avant cette course.
Meselech Melkamu, 24 years old, became in Utrecht on Sunday, June 14th the second fastest athlete ever met in history on 10.000m by running the distance in 29 ' 53 " 80. Only the Chinese girl Wang Juxia, world record woman in 29 ' 31 " 78 since 1993 was faster. The performance of Melkamu allows her to establish a new record of Africa, pushing away from tablets the 29 ' 54 " 66 of her fellow countrywoman Tirunesh Dibaba ran in Pekin last year.
Melkamu had a personal record of 31.04.93 since 2008 before this running.
Le Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge et la Sénégalaise Amy Mbacké Thiam retrouvent la grande forme / The Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge and the Senegalese Amy Mbacké Thiam recover their great shape
Le Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, champion du monde en 2003 et médaillé d’argent des JO de 2008, a établi la meilleure performance mondiale de la saison au 5000m en réalisant un chrono de 12’56’’46 lors du meeting de Milan, le 25 juin dernier. Kipchoge, qui avait couru à Hengelo en 13’00’’91, était venu à Milan avec l’objectif de descendre sous les 13 minutes.
Lors de ce meeting, la Sénégalaise Amy Mbacké Thiam, championne du monde en 2001, a signé le meilleur chrono africain de la saison sur 400m en couvrant l’épreuve en 50’’86. Elle réalise ainsi la 7e meilleure performance de la saison sur le Tour de piste. Amy Mbacké reprend sa suprématie en Afrique devant la Botswanaise Amantle Montsho qui avait réalisé lors du meeting de Berlin 50’’94.
