Ndiss Kaba Badji marque son territoire au Meeting de Dakar
Le Stade Léopold Sedar Senghor a encore mobilisé une forte affluence (près de 50.000 spectateurs), samedi 24 avril, lors du meeting international d’athlétisme de Dakar pour le compte de la 1ère édition du Challenge mondial de l’IAAF. Dakar et Rabat sont les deux seules étapes africaines de cette compétition qui compte 14 meetings à travers le monde. Le pari de la mobilisation a été gagné par les organisateurs sénégalais qui ont aussi présenté un plateau d’athlètes assez relevé pour un début de saison en plein air. Certes, il n’y a pas eu de grosses performances, mais certaines épreuves ont été de bonne qualité.
La présence de la Polonaise Anita Wlodarckzyk (Marteau), du Sud-Africain Mulaudzi Mbulaeni (800m) qui sont champions du monde en titre dans leurs épreuves et de la Kenyane Jebet Nancy Langat, championne olympique du 1500m, témoigne des gros efforts déployés par les organisateurs pour relever le plateau de l’édition 2010
La piste du Stade LSS a aussi accueilli, samedi, de grands noms de l’athlétisme international qui, à défaut de battre les meilleures performances de la saison qui commence, ont bien affiché leurs ambitions pour les compétitions à venir.
On pense notamment aux « Africains » qui doivent se retrouver dans quelques mois à Nairobi, pour les besoins des championnats continentaux. Les Botswanais Amantle Montsho (50’’94 au 400m) et Kabelo Kgosiemang (2,26 m à la Hauteur), le Sénégalais Ndiss Kaba Badji (8,27 m à la Longueur), et à un degré moindre, l’Ivoirien Youssef Meite (20’’86 au 200 m), le Congolais Gary Kikaya (46’’90 au 400m), le Kenyan Suleiman Simotwo (7.45.15 au 3000 m) et le Sud-Africain Cornel Fredericks (49.33 au 400m haies) sont ainsi sur la bonne voie. Mais, une fois encore, les Jamaïcaines Sheri-Ann Brooks (doublé au 100m et 200m) et Nickiesha Wilson (400m haies) ainsi que leur compatriote Lerone Clarke (100m) ont montré que l’école jamaïcaine dispose de bonnes réserves.

The bet of the mobilization has been won by the Senegalese promoters who also presented a platform of athletes raised enough for an outdoor beginning. Certainly, there were not any great performances, but some events were of good quality.

The track of the LSS Stadium also welcomed on Saturday big names of the international athletics who for lack of beating the best performances of the season that has begun, did well display their ambitions for the competitions to come.

Hommage de Lamine Diack à Samaranch
Lamine Diack, président de la Fédération internationale d'athlétisme (IAAF) a rendu hommage à Juan Antonio Samaranch, décédé mercredi 21 avril à Barcelone à l'âge de 89 ans, voyant en lui l'homme qui a remodelé le mouvement olympique au 20e siècle.
"J'ai appris avec beaucoup de tristesse la mort de Juan Antonio Samaranch, l'homme qui, je le dis sans hésitation, a transformé le mouvement olympique moderne en ce qu'il est devenu aujourd'hui", a déclaré M. Diack, cité par un communiqué de l'IAAF.
L'ancien président du Comité international olympique "Samaranch a travaillé avec une grande énergie, intelligence et des talents naturels de diplomate à unifier le mouvement olympique et à faire en sorte que les jeux Olympiques deviennent l'événement sportif le plus important du monde", a ajouté Lamine Diack.

Laminate Diack, president of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) paid tribute to Juan Antonio Samaranch who passed away last Wednesday April 21 in Barcelona at the age of 89, seeing in him the man who has remodeled the Olympic movement in the 20th century.
" I learned with great sadness the passing away of Juan Antonio Samaranch, the man that, I say it without hesitation, transformed the modern Olympic movement in what it became today ", declared Mr. Diack, mentioned by a communiqué of the IAAF.
The former president of the International Olympic Committee " Samaranch worked with great energy, intelligence and with the natural talents of a diplomat to unify the Olympic movement and to make so that the Olympic games become the most important sports event of the world ", added Laminates Diack.

L'Ethiopien Tsegaye Kebede brise l'hégémonie kenyane à Londres
L'Ethiopien Tsegaye Kebede a mis fin à une série de six victoires consécutives des Kenyans au marathon de Londres, en survolant la course pour finir avec plus d'une minute d'avance sur son plus proche poursuivant.
Chez les dames, Liliya Shobukhova, détentrice du record d'Europe du 5000 m, a remporté son deuxième succès sur marathon après celui de Chicago à l'automne. Elle est la première Russe à inscrire son nom au palmarès de l'épreuve.

The Ethiopian Tsegaye Kebede put an end to a set of six consecutive victories of the Kenyans in the marathon of London by overflying the race to finish with more of one minute of advance on his nearer pursuer.
At the ladies Liliya Shobukhova, holder of the Europe record of the 5000 m, took away her second success in marathon after the one of Chicago during the autumn. She is the first Russian to sign in the price list of events.

Le Kényan Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot a remporté le 114e marathon de Boston dans un temps record de 2 h 5 min 52 sec, tandis que l'Ethiopienne Teyba Erkesso s'est imposée chez les dames. Cheruiyot, 21 ans, a battu de près de deux minutes le record de l'épreuve (2h07:14.) établi en 2006 par son compatriote Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot. L'Ethiopien Tekeste Kebede a pris la deuxième place (2h07:23.) devant son compatriote Deriba Merga, le tenant du trophée (2h08:39.).
Chez les dames, Teyba Erkesso (2h26:11.) a devancé la Russe Tatyana Pushkareva (2h26:14.) et sa compatriote Salena Kosgei (2h28:35.).

The Kenyan Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot won the 114th marathon of Boston in a record time of 2 hours 5 min 52 sec, while the Ethiopian Teyba Erkesso imposed herself at the ladies. Cheruiyot, 21 years, beat with nearly two minutes the record of the event (2h07:14.) established in 2006 by his compatriot Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot. The Ethiopian Tekeste Kebede took the second place (2h07:23.) before his compatriot Deriba Merga, holder of the trophy (2h08:39.).
At the ladies, Teyba Erkesso (2h26:11.) got ahead of the Russian Tatyana Pushkareva (2h26:14.) and her compatriot Salena Kosgei (2h28:35.).


Tola et Baysa, le doublé éthiopien à Paris
L'Ethiopien Tadesse Tola a remporté la 34e édition du marathon de Paris, en franchissant la ligne dans le temps de 2 h 06 min 41 sec.
Tola a devancé les Kenyans Alfred Kering (2h07:11) et Wilson Kipsang (2h07:13). Chez les dames, la course a été remportée par l'Ethiopienne Atsede Baysa, qui a franchi la ligne en 2 h 22 min 04 sec, soit le nouveau record féminin de l'épreuve parisienne.

The Ethiopian Tadesse Tola won the 34th edition of the marathon of Paris by crossing the line in a 2 hours 06 min 41sec time.
Tola got ahead of the Kenyan Alfred Kering (2h07:11) and Wilson Kipsang (2h07:13). At the ladies the race has been taken away by the Ethiopian Atsede Baysa who crossed the line in 2 hours 22 min 04sec that is the new feminine record of the Parisian event.

Malika Assahsah remporte la 3eédition de la Course Féminine de la Victoire à Rabat
L'athlète Malika Assahsah, sociétaire du club d'Azrou, a remporté la 3è édition de la course féminine de la Victoire (8 kms) organisée à Rabat, sous le Haut Patronage de SM le Roi Mohammed VI.
L'ancienne championne du monde Nezha Bidouane, présidente de l'association "Femmes, réalisations et valeurs" a souligné que cette édition a atteint son objectif, à savoir réunir un plus grand nombre de participantes afin de les sensibiliser à l'importance de la pratique sportive en tant qu'outil d'insertion sociale et professionnelle.


WomenVictory Race in Rabat: Malika Assahsah wins the 3rd edition
The Malika Assahsah, member of Azrou club, has won the 3rd edition of theWomen Victory Race (8 km) which was organised on Sunday in Rabat under the high Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI.
For her part, the former world champion Nezha Bidouane, chairwoman of the association " Femmes, réalisations et valeurs " underlined that this edition has reached its objective, that is to unite a more large number of participants in order to sensitize them to the importance of the sports practice as a means of social and professional insertion.

La Botswanaise Amantle Montsho, « Reine » mondiale du 400m
La Botswanaise Championne d’Afrique, Amantle Montsho, a réalisé la meilleure performance de l’année sur 400m en 50.35 au Meeting Gabriel Tiacoh d’Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire, le samedi 16 avril.
L’athlète de 26 ans qui s’entraine au CIAD (Centre d’Entrainement de Haute Performance de Dakar) avait terminé huitième aux Jeux Olympiques 2008 et aux Championnats du Monde 2009 et quatrième aux Championnats du Monde en salle à Doha le mois dernier.
Elle s’est imposée à Abidjan devant sa partenaire d’entrainement, la Sénégalaise Ndeye Fatou Soumah (52.28) et la Soudanaise Nawal El Jack (54.04). Montsho a également remporté le 200m en 23.12.
Chez les hommes, le principal résultat a été la victoire du Sénégalais Ndiss Kaba Badji à la longueur (8.04m).

World-leading 50.35 by Montsho in Abidjan
Amantle Montsho of Botswana clocked a world-leading 50.35 in the 400m at the Gabriel Tiacoh meet in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Saturday (16).
It was the third fastest performance ever for Montsho, the reigning African champion in the event who trains at the High Performance Training Centre in Dakar. The 26-year-old, who finished eighth at both the 2008 Olympic Games and 2009 World Championships, finished fourth last month at the World Indoor Championships in Doha.
Her HPTC training partners Ndeye Fatou Soumah of Senegal and Nawal El Jack of Sudan finished a distant second and third, clocking 52.28 and 54.04, respectively.
Montsho also doubled back to win the 200m where she clocked 23.16.
The highlight on the mens program was produced by Ndiss Kaba Badji of Senegal in the Long Jump. The 26-year-old leaped 8.04m, an season's best. Like Montsho, Badji was also a finalist in Beijing and Doha, finishing sixth at both.
