Gebrselassie revient au Marathon de Berlin
Avec le Marathon BMW de Berlin qui aura lieu le 25 septembre, les organisateurs ont annoncé que le détenteur du record du monde Haile Gebrselassie renouera avec les rues de la capitale allemande.
C'était dans la course sur route Label Or de l’IAAF que la vedette éthiopienne avait eu son plus grand succès de Marathonien, en gagnant quatre fois consécutives entre 2006 et 2009 et battant deux fois le record du monde de Marathon (en 2007 et 2008). Sa performance de 2:03:59 se trouve être aujourd'hui la marque à battre.
"J'aime le Marathon de Berlin. Les foules sont fantastiques et un beau jour tout est possible sur cette course extrêmement rapide, " dit Gebrselassie.
Gebrselassie veut se qualifier pour l'équipe éthiopienne au Marathon Olympique de l'année prochaine à Londres. Le dernier Marathon qu'il a couru était celui de Dubaï en 2010 où il a signé un temps de 2:06:09. En novembre dernier, il s'est retiré du Marathon de New York après 25 kilomètres à cause d’un problème de genou et avait annoncé la fin de sa carrière de coureur. Peu après, il est revenu sur sa décision et annonça sa participation au Marathon de Tokyo en Février dernier. Il dut manquer cette course après être tombé et blessé au genou lors d’une séance d’entrainement. Avant Avril, il s’illustra en bonne forme en remportant le semi- marathon de Viennes et le mois dernier il remporta une course de 10km à Manchester en Angleterre en 28 :10

Gebrselassie to return to Berlin Marathon
With the BMW Berlin Marathon 100 days away, organizers announced that World record holder Haile Gebrselassie will return to the streets of the German capital on Sunday 25 September.
It was in this IAAF Gold Label Road Race that the Ethiopian superstar had his greatest success as a Marathon runner, winning four times in a row between 2006 and 2009 and clocking the World Marathon record twice (2007 and 2008). His time of 2:03:59 still stands today as the mark to beat.
“I love the Berlin Marathon. The crowds are fantastic and on a good day everything is possible on this extremely fast course,” Gebrselassie said.
Gebrselassie wants to qualify for the Ethiopian squad for next year’s Olympic Marathon in London. The last Marathon he completed was in Dubai in 2010 where he clocked 2:06:09. Last November he dropped out of the ING New York City Marathon after 25 kilometers with knee problems and announced the end of his running career. Shortly thereafter he stepped back from his decision and announced he would run the Tokyo Marathon in February. He had to skip that race though after a fall on a training run where he hurt his knee. By April he illustrated a return to form when winning the Vienna City Half Marathon and last month won a 10Km road race in Manchester, England, in 28:10.

Le Président de l’IAAF obtient la plus haute distinction du Togo
La République du Togo a donné sa plus haute distinction civile au Président de l’IAAF, Lamine Diack. Le Président du Togo Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe a remis la distinction de Commandeur de l'Ordre du Mono au Président Diack lors d’une cérémonie spéciale dans l'après-midi du 28 juin.
La distinction qui comprend une médaille et une citation est le plus élevé des honneurs civils de la République de Togo et est donné aux personnes qui ont un mérite extraordinaire, quelque soit leur nationalité.
Lamine Diack qui est aussi un Membre du CIO est venu au Togo pour assister à la 38e Assemblée Générale de l'Association Nationale des Comités Olympiques africains, avec 53 pays africains représentés, des dignitaires de la famille Olympique et des délégués des villes candidates pour abriter les jeux olympiques de l'hiver 2018.
Le Président Diack a également reçu la distinction de l’Ordre D'or du Mérite de l'ACNOA dans le cadre de la célébration du trentième anniversaire de l'Association de Comités Olympiques Nationaux d'Afrique (ACNOA). Cette distinction jusque là n’avait été remise qu’aux chefs d’Etats seulement.

IAAF President gets Togo's highest civilian award
The Republic of Togo has bestowed its highest civilian award to IAAF President, Lamine Diack. Togo President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe presented the Commander of the Order of Mono award to President Diack at a special ceremony in the afternoon of 28 June.
The award, which comprises a medal and a citation, is Togo's highest civilian honor and is given to individuals who show extraordinary merit, irrespective of their nationality.
Lamine Diack, who is also an IOC Member, is in Togo to attend the 38th General Assembly of the Association of African National Olympic Committees, together with representatives of 53 African countries, dignitaries from the Olympic family and delegates from those candidate cities who are bidding for the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
President Diack was also awarded the ANOCA Golden Order of Merit as part of the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). This distinction has so far only been awarded to heads of states.

Championnats d’Afrique Juniors : L’Afrique du Sud survole la compétition
Les 10e championnats d’Afrique d’Athlétisme, organisés à Gaborone au Botswana du 12 au 15 mai 2011, ont connu une réussite totale, du point de vue de l’organisation et de la participation. Trente pays ont pu participer à ce rendez-vous, contre vingt-six à Maurice, lors de la précédente édition. Les pays participants sont les suivants : Algérie- Angola- Bénin- Botswana- Cameroun- Congo Démocratique- Djibouti- Egypte- Erythrée- Guinée Equatoriale- Kenya- Lesotho- Lybie- Madagascar- Maroc- Maurice- Malawi- Mozambique- Namibie- Nigeria- Ouganda- République Sud Africaine- Sénégal- Seychelles- Soudan- Swaziland- Tanzanie- Tunisie- Zambie- Zimbabwe. 248 athlètes Hommes et 172 athlètes Femmes, donc un effectif total de 420 athlètes, ont pris part aux épreuves organisées durant quatre journées de compétition. Sept records des championnats ont pu être améliorés, trois chez les Femmes et quatre chez les Hommes. L'Afrique du Sud est sortie de la compétition avec le plus grand nombre de médailles, 34 au total soit 13 en d’or, 13 d’argent et huit de bronze. 17 Pays ont figuré au classement des médailles.

10th AFRICAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: South Africa dominates over the competition
The 10th African Junior championships in Athletics, which were organized from 12th to 15th May, 2011 in Gaborone, Botswana, were a total success as well in the organization as in the participation. 30 countries were present, compared to 26 in Mauritius. The participating countries were: Algeria, Benin, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo DR- Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea- Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya- Madagascar, Morocco, Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa Republic, Senegal, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. 248 athletes (Boys) and 172 athletes (Girls), that is a total number of 420 athletes who took part in the event, which took place over 4 days. Seven records of the championships could be improved, three at ladies and four at men. South Africa emerged with most medals from the competition, 34 total with 13 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals. In total 17 countries appeared in the medal classification.

MEETING DE DAKAR : Heidler, Semenya et Crawford confirment
L’édition 2011 du meeting international de Dakar (28/05/2011), comptant pour le Challenge mondial de l’IAAF, a regroupé de grands noms de la piste africaine et mondiale dont l’Américain Shawn Crawford (champion olympique du 200m en 2004), la Sud-africaine Caster Semenya, championne du monde du 800m et l’Allemande Betty Heidler, meilleure performeuse mondiale du marteau.

MEETING OF DAKAR: Heidler, Semenya and Crawford confirming
The 2011 edition of the Dakar International meeting (28 /05 /2011), which is also the IAAF World challenge regrouped some names of the African and world track with the American Shawn Crawford (Olympic champion of the 200 m in 2004), the South Africa’s Caster Semenya, world champion of the 800m and the German Betty Heidler, best world performer of the hammer.

MEETING OF RABAT: Three Best world performances
Competing before an audience of more than 30,000 people, Blanka Vlasic, Amine Laalou and Alto Kibiwot have achieved the best world performances to mark the 4th edition of the International Meeting Mohamed VI in the Morrocan capital.

Le Marocain Aziz Daouda, directeur technique de la confédération africaine d'athlétisme (CAA) a été décoré, le dimanche12/06/2011, de l'ordre du mérite sportif de la République congolaise en marge de la 6è édition du Meeting de Brazzaville, comptant pour le CAA Golden event.
La décoration de DAOUDA intervient en reconnaissance aux services rendus à l'athlétisme dans le continent africain.

AZIZ DAOUDA rewarded in Brazzaville
The Morrocan Mr Aziz DAOUDA, the Technical Director of the CAA has been awarded the order of Merit of the Republic of Congo in the margin of the 6th edition of the Brazzaville CAA Golden Event.
This distinction is an act of gratefulness to Mr Aziz DAOUDA for the services he granted for the development of athletics in the African continent.

Amantle Montcho à la poursuite de Alyson Felix
Amantle Montcho, l’athlète du Botswana qui s’entraîne depuis plusieurs années au CIAD (Centre international d’athlétisme de Dakar) a remporté le 400 m dames de la 5-ème étape de la Diamond league avec un chrono de 50s 10. C’est la deuxième meilleure performance mondiale de la saison.
La meilleure performance de l’année sur la distance est la propriété de l’Américaine Alyson Felix, qui a fait un chrono de 49s 81 à Rome (Italie), le 23 mai dernier. Les retrouvailles entre les deux spécialistes du Tour de piste à Daegu, lors des prochains championnats du monde, s’annoncent très prometteuses.

The Botswana’s athlete Amantle Montcho who has been for years, a boarder of the Dakar High Performance Training centre, has won the 400 m ladies of the 5th stage of the Diamond League with a clock of 50s 10. This is the second world best of the season.
The best performance of the season on the distance belongs to the American Alyson Felix who performed a clock of 49s 81 in Roma, Italia, last May 23rd. the next encounter of the two specialists of the track round at Daegu reveals itself very fruitful.
